Chapter 4: Modelling animal encounter rates

Part 1. Encounter functions

In this part of the workshop we describe about how your ability to detect animals depends on how far the animals are from you. This is a very intuitive concept and makes an easy introduction into statistical models describing encounter rates and the parameters that describe this model.

Part 2. Encounter function design issues

In this video we return to the idea of camera trap spacing, and look at the links between the encounter rate function and appropriate camera trap spacing.
