About The Video Narrators

Dr. Ian Durbach

I am a senior research fellow in ecological statistics at the University of St Andrews. My research interests are in developing and applying methods for quantitative assessment of wildlife populations:

  • Estimating abundance: how many are there?

  • Survey design: how do I count them?

  • Animal movement: where do they go?

  • Human impact: how are we affecting them?

Prof. David Borchers

I'm a statistician at the University of St Andrews, specialising in developing statistical methods to address questions in ecology using survey data. I have a particular interest in spatial capture-recapture (SCR) methods and have developed and applied these methods to survey animal populations over a number of years.
